Neptune's Lead Free TRU/FLO® Compound Meters Receive NSF/ANSI 61 Certification

TALLASSEE, ALABAMA, [May 1, 2002] – Neptune Technology Group Inc. received NSF/ANSI 61 certification of its lead free TRU/FLO® compound meter product line. Certification indicates Neptune's TRU/FLO compound meters are compliant with NSF/ANSI Standard 61.

The National Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) prohibits the use of any in-line device that is not lead free (less than 8 percent lead). Congress amended the SDWA in 1996 requiring that water meters meet lead-leaching performance standards of the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). NSF/ANSI Standard 61 has since been adopted by 43 states.

According to Andre Noel, Neptune Product Manager for Commercial Meters, “Certification of the TRU/FLO compound meters by NSF/ANSI is good news for utilities and their commercial customers as well. These meters enable water utilities to comply with strict legislative regulations and consumer demand for lead free water."

The list of Neptune NSF/ANSI 61-certified products includes: T-10® Meters (5/8" - 2"); Aquity® Meters (5/8"); HP Turbine Meters (1.5" - 2"); TRU/FLO Compound Meters (2" - 6"); and Strainers (2", 3", 4", 6", 8", 10"). A listing of additional certified products can be found at the NSF website http://www.nsf.org.

To date, Neptune is the only North American water meter manufacturer that uses EnviroBrass® II exclusively in its meter production. EnviroBrass II is an alternative high-copper brass alloy developed by ASARCO Specialty Products. Meters manufactured with EnviroBrass II have virtually no lead content.

EnviroBrass II research conducted by the Copper Development Association (CDA), American Foundry Society (AFS), Canada Centre for Minerals and Energy Technology (CANMET) and the Association of Brass & Bronze Ingot Manufacturers showed EnviroBrass II offers the machinability, pressure tightness, corrosion resistance, and casting characteristics of leaded brass. The plant-wide conversion to EnviroBrass II allows Neptune meters to meet and exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 61. Neptune's complete line of NSF/ANSI-compliant EnviroBrass II water meters can be reviewed at http://www.neptunetg.com. Visitors can also request information and free assistance with bid specifications for compliant water meters.
